Hiking rucksacks are comfortable and packed full of useful features. If you’re planning on heading on a multi-day hike then you might need to look for a large backpack that can fit in some spare hiking clothes, packable waterproofs, and has enough pockets and fastenings for your walking poles and drinks bottle. They also usually come with chest straps and hip belts to make carrying a heavy load more comfortable.

CHOOSING A SMALL RUCKSACK

Whether it's a small rucksack to carry your packed lunch or a black rucksack smart enough for the office, small rucksacks come in a range of shapes and styles to suit you.

When choosing a hiking rucksack it’s best to work out how long you’ll be out on the trail for. A few hours exploring the local area might only need a day pack from our in-house hiking and camping experts at Quechua, suitable for your lunch and a few essentials like a map and compass.

WATERPROOF RUCKSACK FOR CAMPING

For those looking for a waterproof rucksack for camping, you'll need to be able to strap your overnight kit, tent, sleeping bag and more to your rucksack, so a larger trekking backpack is your best option. Our in-house trekking brand Forclaz have created a range of expedition ready rucksacks that are ideal for those nights away off-grid.

DO I NEED A LADIES RUCKSACK?

Hiking rucksacks come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and you'll find many unisex options in various colourways for both men and women. Though for more tailored options, we do have a range of women's rucksacks that have a more comfortable fit for the female frame, as well as kids rucksacks to get the little ones out adventuring.

Women's-specific rucksacks are a slightly different shape and size to a men's backpack. The hip straps on a women’s pack tend to sit a little higher, and the backs are shorter. Women’s rucksacks also have more rounded ‘S’ shaped straps, whereas men’s are more parallel.
