There's nothing wrong with a little rain and mud from time to time when exploring the great outdoors. But so the weather doesn't completely ruin your hike, it's important to wear waterproof clothing, and also walking shoes that will stand up against the elements. This is where water-repellent treatments come in.

WATERPROOF SPRAY FOR WALKING SHOES

Waterproof spray for shoes is a protective coating applied to footwear to stop both water and dirt penetrating the shoe outer. It's also important to increase the lifespan of your shoes. And whether they're hiking boots, football boots, or running shoes, any pair of shoes that you wear outside should be treated.

Even if a pair of walking shoes are bought as waterproof, the protection will wear off eventually so you should always apply a waterproof treatment before you wear a pair of shoes for the first time, and then re-apply regularly.

WATERPROOF SPRAY FOR LEATHER SHOES

Leather shoes in particular can benefit from waterproof treatments. Leather is a naturally water-repellent material, but it can do with a little extra help occasionally. If leather is not cared for it can become brittle and cracked. So a quality waterproofing wax will keep it nice and smooth for longer. But there are plenty of waterproof sprays for leather shoes too.

WATERPROOF SPRAY FOR SUEDE SHOES

Nubuck leather and suede boots need a different treatment from regular, full-grain leather boots. It's best to use a waterproofing spray designed to restore waterproofness to nubuck and suede leather. Never use dubbing wax on these materials as it’s solely intended for use on smooth leather and will ruin the ‘fuzzy’ feel of nubuck and suede. And it will stain the material too.
