So you've bought your surfboard, now it's time to get a board bag. There are lots of different styles of bags to choose from, so which one is best for you? The type of bag you need will depend on what you're using it for - whether it's an everyday cover or a travel bag to keep your board safe and ding-free!

Every surfboard bag will come in multiple sizes so be sure to get the right size for your board. Always buy a bag a few inches bigger than your board to give enough room for the width and volume as well as the fins if you plan to keep them attached.

8FT SURFBOARD BAG

If you're a beginner surfer looking to get your first board, an 8 foot surfboard is usually the best way to go as the bigger the board in terms of volume (length, width, thickness), the more stable the board will feel.

Surfboard socks are nice and easy to slot over your board and are great for protecting the rails and deck from the odd scratch. They come in different sizes to fit different board types and usually have a drawstring at the tail and a cushioned nose space for extra protection. Standard surfboard bags usually have a lightweight waterproof outer cover with a zip at the tail end to slot your board into - and generally, the more expensive the bag, the more padding you will usually get.

7FT SURFBOARD BAG

If you're super athletic and highly skilled at other board sports like snowboardingorskateboarding, then, you might prefer a smaller 7 foot surfboard to start - especially if you're dedicated to surfing at least a couple of times a week.

If you're planning on travelling with your surfboard, then you need a bag that's a little more substantial. A surfboard bag with 10 mm thick high density foam padding will keep your board safe, and some are capable of holding more than one board - handy if you're travelling with a friend or partner. Or you can stuff your wetsuit or surf clothes in to save space in your suitcase or hand luggage.
