The best ski base layers

When it comes to staying warm when skiing, layering is the way to go, your ski base layer plays an important role in regulating your temperature, which means it needs to be moisture-wicking and breathable so that you can cool down and not drench in sweat whilst also being able to trap heat and warm you up when the environment around you get's particularly cold. 

That's why choosing the right fabric is key. If you're not planning to get too active and only accompanying those who are planning to ski, then a cotton base layer is fine as you don't plan on breaking a sweat or getting up to much physical activity. Still, if you're going to the mountains to get stuck in and don't plan on leaving the slopes, then you'll want to look in to breathable fabrics such as merino wool and even some polyester options.

For longer sessions on the slope, you’ll want a reliable ski rucksack to keep all your essentials dry and protected whilst you’re out in the snow.

You may be wondering what's the difference between thermals and base layers. Simply put, they're pretty much the same thing but technically speaking, there's usually more of an emphasis on thermals to keep you warm rather than being sweat-wicking. So if you're more focused on fighting the cold rather than sweat, then thermals are the right choice for you.
