The boat anchor: a must-have at sea

Taking a variety of forms, boat anchors provide some security for fishermen or sailors wishing to go to sea. To be effective, an anchor must be heavy enough to have a good grip on the bottom of the water. The shape of the shovel is also of primary importance; certain shapes provide a better grip. Anchors are used to stabilize a boat at a specific location over rocky, muddy or sandy bottoms. There are two categories of anchors: temporary and permanent. If you decide to go sailing at night and wish to sleep on the spot, a temporary anchor is preferable. On the contrary, if your boat occupies the same place all year round, you will opt for a permanent anchor instead.

What are the different boat anchors?

Among the multitude of boat anchors on the market, you can notably find:

  • The flat anchor which is used rather on sandy and muddy bottoms.
  • The ploughshare anchor which is inspired by plows, hence its name. This one replaces itself easily in case of stalling.
  • The shovel anchor which benefits from a hollow yard and a weighted tip. These two specific features make it really effective.
  • The grappling anchor which proves particularly useful in algae-covered bottoms.
  • The floating anchor which is seen as a safety device since it stabilizes the boat in bad weather.

Secure your boat with Decathlon anchors

In addition to the previously mentioned anchors, Decathlon has trefoilf, umbrella grapple as well as delta type anchors. The grappling anchors are mainly used during the nice days. The models are equipped with steel rods that can twist if the anchor gets stuck in the middle of rocks. For your dinghy or anchoring your fishing boat, the stainless steel grapple anchor is ideal. On pleasure boats, flat anchors are the most common.
