Winter Hiking Coats

A good winter coat is one of the most important pieces of winter hiking clothing. And when it comes to keeping yourself comfortable in the colder months, picking the right insulation is key. But there are so many different types of winter coat, so you should match your jacket to the intended use.

MEN'S WINTER COATS

At Decathlon, we have lots of different styles of men's winter coats to choose from. But for maximum warmth, consider a padded jacket, with down or synthetic insulation. A puffer jacket can provide maximum warmth for minimum weight and bulk, making it easier to pack away when you're not wearing it.

If you intend on wearing your winter coat in the rain, look for a durable waterproof coating to protect you from the elements. A waterproof coat will often block wind too, but it will not be as breathable as a fleece or a hybrid jacket so do bear this in mind if you're planning on doing anything active.

LADIES WINTER COATS

A good winter coat is an investment, and generally the more you invest the more you'll get in terms of features and fabrics. But there’s no point breaking the bank if you only need a basic shell for walking the dog, although if you’re using the jacket regularly on trail or mountain walks you’ll really see the benefit of the higher end fabrics like GORE-TEX®, particularly in terms of breathability and durability. And if you look after your jacket properly you'll get years of use.
