Bite Alarms & Bite Detection for Carp Fishing

Bite detection is essential for alerting you to when a fish is biting, so you can quickly react and reel it in. Bite alarms are the preferred method for carp fishing, and should have adjustable volume, pitch, and sensitivity, as well as a light to indicate which rod has the bite. Some bite alarms send their signal directly to a radio receiver, which can be useful when your rods are set up a distance from your bivvy.

In addition to a bite alarm, a bobbin should be attached to the line to provide visual indication of a bite and detect drop-back bites. These are typically attached to the bite alarm or rod pod with a chain or cord (also known as 'Hangers'), but a fixed arm can also be used (also known as 'Swingers'). Hangers tend to be more sensitive for detecting bites, but are also therefore more prone to false alarms in windy weather.
