The 2nd generation of KMC 12-speed chains is designed while considering all developments on the market. In the beginning, only SRAM offered 12-speed systems for mountain bikes, but since then all major manufacturers have followed their lead and at the same time expanded their ranges to include road group sets. In line with these new requirements, KMC have consistently revised our 12-speed segment and made the X12, e12 and DLC12 compatible with all shifting systems from SRAM, Shimano, Campagnolo, and other manufacturers. The compatibility is marked accordingly on the backside of the packaging of the products.
The Non-Directional design makes it independent of direction which allows maximum compatibility on MTB or Race bikes. With its unique stretch-proof treatment, the durability has been enhanced massively by reducing the attrition between the inner plates and pin. As a result, chain life has been significantly prolonged. The upper bridge forms a slant vault parallel to the tip of the tooth movement. This vault shape makes the tooth and chain engage much more precisely.
X-Bridge
The KMC X-Series has been designed with the specific characteristics of the Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo systems in mind and will meet the most demanding requirements. Elaborately designed and manufactured, the X-Bridge technology, thanks to precisely chamfered plates, allows smooth propulsion and perfect gear changes in all driving situations.
The non-toxic, environmentally friendly EcoProTeQ technology EPT from KMC protects chains against corrosion (only after 650 hours of salt spray test do the first traces of rust develop) for twice as long as conventional rust protection and thus sets new standards. Each component of every chain link is treated separately with EPT. This means a 100 % coating that offers the lowest possible attack by water, salt, and air humidity.
Another characteristic of EPT: The very smooth surface gives chains excellent running qualities. Dirt buildup is minimized in the long term, which means that chain maintenance is significantly relieved.
