What is flex? To provide an indication of rigidity, brands assign a flex rating to every boot. This figure determines the rigidity of the boot;: the higher the figure, the stiffer the shell. A flex of 60 is designed for intermediate to experienced skiers. A flex from 65 to 75 is for experienced skiers. Beyond that, the product is intended for experts. Larger builds may however move up a level.
How do you try on ski boots? Once your foot is in the boot, fasten the buckles up half-way. You can go further? This means the boot is the wrong size for you. Once you've fastened your boots, you need to flex 3 times while pushing your calves forward (put your hands on your knees), which will push your heel back into the boot. Stand up: your foot should touch the end of the shell. When you flex, your foot should move backwards so you can no longer feel the end.
Tips for putting ski boots on more easily? Pull the tongue forwards and towards the outside of the feet: this fully opens the shell making the boot much easier to put on.
