You are a regular cross country skier and are looking for a ski with excellent slide and grip. The 550 ski will be there to help you progress! Thanks to the narrow sidecuts, the 100% mohair skins and PEhd sintered sole, the 550 ski offers very good slide and an ideal ratio between slide and grip.

Technical Information

1 - The classic 550 cross country ski with skins, the best compromise to progress!

If you regularly go cross country skiing, with good basic technique.
To you, cross country skiing is not only a form of escapism, it is also an opportunity to exercise in a natural environment.
The ski 550 is ideal for intermediate skiers, it is the best compromise to progress.
A balance between slide, light weight, rigidity, grip and freedom, with the binding that adjusts without tools!

2 - Adapted camber, for a customised ski!

The cross country skis have a camber that returns the force applied by the skier and resists crushing under their weight.
With the classic, you must crush the ski so that the kick zone is in contact with the snow.
To slide, the kick area must no longer be in contact with the snow.
It is important to choose the correct camber depending on your weight and level to obtain the correct grip/slide ratio.

3 - Choosing the right SIZE

The size of cross country skis is chosen according to your level and weight
- 50 to 60 Kg = 188 cm
- 60 to 70 Kg = 188 cm
- 65 to 75 Kg = 195 cm
- 75 to 90 Kg = 202 cm
- 90 to 110 Kg = 202 cm
- 100 to 130 Kg = 207 cm
If you are between 2 sizes:
- For more comfort, choose the lower size to ensure the ski is more manoeuvrable.
- For more intense use = choose the larger size

4 - SKIN grip, simple!

The kick zone of a cross country ski is the area in the centre of the sole (bottom of the ski).
It enables "grip" to not slide back when skiing uphill, while guaranteeing flowing slide on flat and downhill sections.
There are 3 systems: scales, grip wax and skins.
The ski 550 is equipped with 100% mohair skins
The skins enable identical grip to scaled soles and the advantage is that they do not make any noise and do not require waxing

5 - XCELERATOR bindings, the technology that will increase your speed!

All of our skis are sold with Rottefella bindings that are compatible with the NNN, prolink and Turnamic standards.
The skis 550 with skins are equipped with Rottefella Xcelerator bindings that enable an optimal position between the ski and the boots, to optimise push.
You can easily move the binding without tools to adapt it to your needs.

6 - A sintered base, for superior slide

The base is the part of the ski that is in contact with snow, it is made from polyethylene (PEhd), the manufacturing process is either extrusion or sintering.
The base of the ski 550 is in sintered PEhd, made from a plastic powder with high molecular weight, heated, compressed and cut into slabs.
This process enables higher density of the sole and therefore better slide and resistance.

7 - Waxing, the secret of durability

After purchase, we recommend that you prepare the base of your skis for them to reach their optimal speed, several consecutive waxings to "nourish" the base are recommended.
To maintain the performance of your skis, don't forget to wax them regularly!
To wax your skis, check out our tutorials on our Inovik YouTube channel or make an appointment in your Decathlon workshop.

GLOSSARY = Ski structure

Our skis are made with a "sandwich" structure: layering different materials in the ski's core and throughout its full length.
The final product is assembled using a press.
CORE = centre of the ski: in wood (solid or with channels) or composites (honeycomb or Nomex®)
SOLE = Part in contact with the snow, it is made from high density polyethylene (PEhd), sintered or extruded.
Kick zone = grippy area under the ski
