Information and recommendations on speed

The electrical assistance supplements your pedalling to help you reach your destination without overly sweating, while maintaining a pleasant pedalling pace throughout your ride. The motor stops when you stop pedalling and when braking.WARNING: We have put in a powerful and torquey engine to accompany you when you are loaded.This motor generates power above 45 km/h which can damage your electrical system.Do not exceed this speed.

What are the characteristics of the motor on the Longtail R500E cargo bike?

Rear wheel motor: 48 volts, 250 Watt (nominal). It has an engine torque of up to 58 Nm. It lets you easily carry loads of up to 170 kg. The torque and power values tell you how easily the bike will deal with certain difficulties (such as a hill). The motor is coupled to a torque sensor that provides electric assistance based on the force exerted on the pedals. It gives you a more natural pedalling motion.

Battery and battery life

Samsung lithium-ion battery 672 Wh (48V, 14Ah) Charge time = 4 hours 40 Battery range: 90 km maximum in Eco mode (1), 70 km maximum in Normal mode (2), and 50 km maximum in Power mode (3) for someone weighing 80 kg on a relatively flat road with no load on the bike. NB: The battery life may vary depending on the weight being transported (rider weight + weight of any items being carried), the gradient (uphill) and the weather conditions.

Control screen and trigger

There is an LCD screen just next to your left grip. You don't need to let go of your handlebar to choose between the 3 assistance modes: The modes are Eco, Normal and Power. "Trip to go" tells you how much battery range you've got left, "Trip" tells you how far you've ridden, and "Odo" tells you the bike's total distance. There's a start assistance trigger that helps you get going, up to 6 km/h (handy when heavily laden). You can also control the headlights.

Assistance Modes

Mode 0 - Deactivated (battery not in use). Mode 1 - Eco => up to 90% assistance on top of your pedalling effort. Mode 2 - Normal => up to 180% assistance on top of your pedalling effort. Mode 3 - Power => up to 300% assistance on top of your pedalling effort. "Walk" mode => Hold the trigger to help you push the bike when you're walking alongside it (assistance up to 6 km/h) or to help you get started when riding.

Saddle with a handle for manhandling the bike that can also be used as a grab handle by a person sitting on the pannier rack.

Tyre maintenance and inflation tips

1) Monthly tyre pressure check (between 3.5 and 5 bar).If the tyre pressure is too low, you will lose efficiency, battery range and stability. 2) Regular drivetrain maintenance (especially the chain, which should be cleaned and lubricated). 3) For long-term storage (>1 month) without using the bike, we strongly recommend using the "extended sleep" battery mode to prevent any malfunctions.

Cleaning / Repairs

Before performing any work on your electric bike yourself (cleaning, electrical or mechanical maintenance), you must turn off the bike and remove the battery.

Pannier rack

The pannier rack can take loads of up to 80 kg. The pannier rack is compatible with all Decathlon universal accessories (child seat, basket, bags). Its dimensions are W: 15.5 cm x L: 60cm.We recommend using the accessories that have been developed specifically for this cargo bike: Double luggage 2 x 50 L -> ref. 8667277 Cargo bike cushion -> ref. 8667276

Front basket

The frame-mounted front basket can hold up to 10 kg.Inner dimensions: L: 37 cm / W: 25 cm / H: 12 cm

Use of the bike on the coast

The marine environment (air, ocean spray) is extremely corrosive for mechanical and metallic parts, so it is strongly recommended to regularly lubricate the entire drive train of your bike and clean the positioning elements with a damp cloth from time to time (handlebar, seat post, etc) to remove any salt deposits that may accumulate.

Warranty

The frame is guaranteed for life.2-year warranty on parts, with normal use of the bike (excluding wearing parts).

BATTERY LOCK

Locks with a key (2 keys provided with the bike). So the battery is removable for recharging (at the office, for example).

Wheel lock

There is a wheel lock on the front wheel so you can stop it turning.2 keys are provided with the bike. It is compatible with a Decathlon plug-in chain (ref. 8767728)

Delivery information

There are 2 options: - In-store delivery: Your bike will be fully assembled when you come to collect it. Warning! The bike is 2.2 m long. You'll either need to ride it home or come in a vehicle that can hold something of that length. - Home delivery: Your bike will be 90% assembled. You'll get paper and video instructions, along with a tool kit to help you assemble everything else (footrests, front basket, handlebar, pedals, child retention bar).

Rear retention bar

The bike is equipped with a rear retention bar. It can be used when carrying a child or goods. It can also be used to hold a box of standard dimensions (60 cm x 40 cm x 40 cm).The side bars have 2 adjustment positions.
