Carp Fishing Line

Monofilament & Braided lines

Since carp fishing has many intracacies that vary from water to water, one question often arises: what is the perfect carp fishing line?

Monofilament Lines

Monofilament lines bring the advantages of good sinking behaviour, good abrasion resistance, knot strength, and elasticity, as such monofilament lines are the standard for carp fishing wherever possible. We recommend beginners start with line diameters of around 0.35mm, lines of this diameter still cast well, but have the abrasion resistance and elasticity to cope with the shocks from the carp as it fights. Monofilament is our favourite choice when fishing at ranges below 150m, float fishing, stalking, fishing in rocky waters.

Braided Lines

Braided lines or Braids have very low elasticity, and incredibly high tensile strengths in relation to their small diameter, which are very important characteristics when fishing in and around snags or weedy patches as they grant you more control to keep the fish away from the snags. Another advantage of the low elasticity of braided line is that, when fishing at longer ranges, you get better more sensitive bite indication, as well as better control over the fish. When fishing with braided line, we recommend using a shock leader to provide a bit more abrasion resistance near the lead and reduce the risk of your line snapping when casting leads over longer distances, we recommend 2-3 rod lengths of strong monofilament. In short, carp braids are best used at long range (150m or more) or when fishing in snaggy areas.

Carp Lines FAQs:

Q: Which line is best for Carp Fishing?
A: The best bedchair is going to offer you enough comfort without restricting your mobility too much on the bank. Weight, padding, lying surface and transport dimensions are the decisive factors when buying a bedchair. OurMorphoz Bedchairoffers optimal comfort, and ourWildtrack Bedchair offers optimal mobility.

Q: What is a shock leader?
A: A shock leader is a length of stronger monofilament connecting the main line to the lead, it needs to be abrasion resistant and have enough elasticity to with stand the high strain of casting over long distances

Q: What is the best line diameter for Carp Fishing?
A: If you're using a monofilament line, we recommend diameters around 0.35mm, but braided lines can have a smaller diameter for the same breaking strain.
