Crosscontact sole

The design of the sole has been the subject of long research at our laboratories, combined with a specific rubber formulation to offer the best compromise between grip and traction. As the needs are not the same, we systematically seek the best compromise to walk on natural (forest path type) and mineral pathway furniture (coastal path type).

Designed for use on natural trails

Our hiking boots are designed for use on natural trails. Indeed, we choose and test the components of the sole and the upper of our boots to best adapt to hiking on soft trails (forest paths made of earth) or mineral trails (rocky coastal footpaths). Road use (bitumen) can accelerate the wear of your boots and cause you discomfort. Not suitable for mountain hiking.

How to choose your correct hiking boot size?

Try on both boots, while standing, with the socks worn for hiking. Try several models, several sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going downhill. Avoid all pressure points when trying them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Wear your boots in gradually during the first hikes, to mould them to your foot.

Waterproofing test

The footwear is laboratory and field tested equipped with a membrane to ensure optimal waterproofing and breathability. First, the boot is immersed in water while the air pressure inside is increased to check that no bubbles form on the surface. Next, the boots are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.

3 levels of waterproofing

During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (around 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (around 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (around 8 hours of walking). Naturally, after this test or in use, the boot regains its original waterproofing once dry.

How to prolong the waterproofing of your boots?

It is advisable to use a re-waterproofing spray a few times a year to regain the original water repellency and combat external stains.

Laboratory test

Other laboratory tests are also conducted to validate the following elements: tearing of the eyelets and straps, stitching, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of the sole and the components of the upper, accelerated ageing.

The boot/sock combination has an important role.

There are numerous causes of blisters when hiking: rubbing, a folded sock, moisture, size too small or too big...
It is therefore important to choose the right size and a sock material adapted to your hiking boots.

How to choose the size of your hiking socks?

You need to choose a sock size adapted to your foot to avoid any extra folding of the sock: either because the sock is too big and so there is too much material around your foot, or because the sock is too small and is pulled towards the inside of the boot.

How to choose the material of your hiking socks?

You need to manage humidity levels when out hiking: we perspire, it's often inevitable.
If your boot is breathable, it will wick away moisture from your perspiration: so you have to choose a light and breathable sock as well
If your boot is fairly waterproof, to protect you from the rain, you will not make the same choice: you need to choose a sock that will absorb your perspiration then move it away as much as possible from your foot.

Which pair of socks goes with the NH150 MID WP boot?

These boots are waterproof. Although their waterproof membrane is breathable, the evacuation of moisture from your perspiration is more limited than in a fully ventilated boot. So you should go for NH100 mid socks that contain moisture-absorbing cotton and have a terry construction under the sock that draws moisture away from your foot. It is an excellent combination to reduce the appearance of blisters.
