TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Mountain Touring

In an unspoilt mountainous environment, far from the groomed slopes, you experience the total freedom of skiing without external support.
You have all the safety equipment you need (avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe).
Whether you go with friends, family or, possibly, mountain professionals (guides), you always go with someone (never unaccompanied). Such a back-country skiing tour can last one day or several days.

Pack

The pair of MT 500 skis are available as a pack with Tour Light bindings and skins.
The binding is fitted to a baseplate that can be adjusted to the length of the 55mm binding. It is therefore suitable for a wide range of foot sizes.
The baseplate is mounted according to an assembly plan for each size in order to suit everyone's needs.
Thanks to this assembly, you can lend your skis, change boot size, etc.
This is a major advantage for easily initiating others to cross-country skiing.

Skins

The skins provided with the MT 500 skis are sized and cut to the size and width of the ski.
They are made of 70% mohair and 30% synthetic materials – the ideal compromise in terms of gliding performance (when climbing in order to save energy) and grip (when climbing in order to reduce the backslide effect).
The skins are fitted with a metal calliper that can be fastened to most ski tips and an adjustable camlock at the rear for fastening the skin to the tail of the ski.

Construction

Wood Sandwich construction with straight sidewalls.

What is a camber?

When placing a ski on the ground, its points of contact are found near the nose and tail, whereas the middle of the ski (under the bindings) is slightly raised (this is the camber). The longer and higher the camber, the greater the edge grip and more responsive the ski. The lower the camber, the more forgiving the ski and the better the handling it has.

Camber

The MT 500 has a high camber – good compromise between edge grip and leverage when exiting turns.

What are ski sidecuts?

The sidecuts have 3 measurements – the width of the nose (front of the ski), waist (middle of the ski) and tail (back of the ski). The wider the tip, the easier it is to initiate turns. The slimmer the waist width, the more edge grip the ski has on hard snow. The wider the waist, the more comfortable and stable the ski is in changing snow conditions. The wider the waist, the greater the stability of the ski in turns. The slimmer the tail, the easier it is to side-slip.

Sidecuts

134/84/116 in size 170 cm,
Sidecut radius of 14 metres in size 170 cm

Weight

Ski alone = 1645g (size 170cm).
Ski with Tour light binding: 2035g (size 170).

Size of the bindings

163 cm = 257 to 307 mm
170 cm = 267 to 317 mm
177 cm = 287 to 337 mm
