TECHNICAL INFORMATION

CrossContact sole

Sole design that has been the subject of extensive research in our laboratories, combined with a specific rubber formulation to optimise grip and traction. As the needs are not the same, we systematically seek the best compromise for walking on soft paths (forest trail type) and stone paths (coastal path type).

Limiting our environmental impact

For these boots, we have chosen more environmentally friendly components:
- Upper (front of the shoe, tongue and top of the shoe): 52% recycled polyester and 48% dope-dyed polyamide (dye that uses less water)
- tongue and collar lining: 100% recycled polyester
- 100% recycled PES laces and eyelets
- insole: 85% recycled Polyurethane foam & 100% polyester lining
-outer sole: 30% recycled rubber

How to choose the right size of hiking boot?

Try on both shoes, while standing, with the socks used for hiking. Try several models in several sizes if needed. Check the following two areas of comfort: the heel and the front of the foot when going downhill. There should be no compression points when fitting. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Wear your boots for increasingly long periods to wear them in.

Designed for use on natural trails

Our hiking boots are designed for use on country trails. Indeed, we choose and test the components of the sole and the upper of our boots to adapt effectively to hiking on soft trails (forest or earth paths) or stone trails (rocky coastal footpath). Use on roads (tarmac) can lead to the premature wear of your boots and cause discomfort. They are not suitable for hiking in the mountains.

Waterproofing test

Tested in the laboratory and in use, boots equipped with a membrane ensure optimal waterproofing and breathability. First immersed in water under air pressure, we check the absence of bubbles on the surface of the boot. Next, shoes are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.

3 levels of waterproofing

During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing, i.e. 2000 flexes (about 2 hours of walking), 4000 flexes (about 4 hours of walking) and 8000 flexes (about 8 hours of walking). Naturally, when the boot has dried after the test or in use, it regains its original waterproof powers.

How to prolong the waterproofing of your boots?

We recommend spraying your boots several times a year with waterproof spray to restore the original water repellent properties and prevent stains on the outside of the boot.

Laboratory test

Laboratory tests are also conducted to validate the following elements: tearing of eyelets and straps, gluing, toxicology, resistance to UV rays, abrasion of the sole and upper components, accelerated ageing. We use these tests to improve the quality of our products and prevent the premature wear of our hiking boots.

The boot/sock combination plays a key role.

Blisters can occur for many reasons when hiking: rubbing, a fold in the socks, damp, shoes that are a size too small or too big...
We therefore recommend you choose the correct shoe size and the sock fabric that is adapted to your walking shoes.

How to choose the right size hiking sock?

The size of socks chosen must fit the foot to avoid any additional creases in the sock: either because the sock is too big resulting in too much material around your foot, or because the sock is too small resulting in additional fabric being pulled inside the boot.

How to choose the material of your hiking socks?

You need to manage moisture as best you can when walking: you will sweat, it is often inevitable.
If your shoe is breathable, it will wick away the damp from your perspiration: you need to choose light and breathable socks also
If your shoe is waterproof, to protect yourself from the dampness of rain and you will not make the same choice: you should prefer socks that will absorb your perspiration and then wick it away from your foot.

What socks are suitable to wear with the NH500 Mid WP boot?

These boots offer some breathability but not enough to wick away all the moisture of your perspiration. You should wear the NH500 high socks: they contain cotton which absorbs moisture and have a terry construction under the sock that draws moisture away from your foot. And they’re high enough to protect your ankle from the boot.
It is an excellent combination for reducing the emergence of blisters.

Warranty

Our hiking boots are guaranteed for 2 years.
Our commitment? To provide long-lasting products that you can use for all your country walks. Because the products we love the most are those that have a story to tell and will have more to tell in the future!

What is the origin of our leather

We use leather known as "nubuck". It has a downy, silky touch.
The leather of these boots is of bovine origin. We do not kill animals to get this leather: we only use waste from the food industry.

How to look after your leather boots

After your walks, we recommend you:
- Leave to dry away from any heat source
- On fully dry leather, brush vigorously with a stiff brush to remove mud and dirt
- Use a suede brush or nubuck rubber to remove stains
- For stubborn stains, clean with a brush and some warm water
- Leave to dry
- Brush again with a stiff brush
- Spray with a waterproofing agent: this will give shine to the leather and liveliness to the colour.
