What is a freediving lanyard for?

A safety lanyard, also called a leash, is an essential accessory in the practice of deep freediving.
Indeed, it allows maintaining the contact between the freediver and the cable as he descends. This is a great help for the safety of the freedivers.
The lanyard is mandatory during competitions and highly recommended during classes and training.

Where to attach the lanyard on the freediver?

Each freediver has his own preferences but in general, the lanyard is positioned on the wrist for constant weight apnoea (CWT), on the ankle for free immersion (FIM), and on the belt for constant weight without fins (CNF).
