TECHNICAL INFORMATION

How to use your snow hiking shoes correctly?

Before putting them on:
There is a snow hiking shoe for left foot and one for right foot. Make sure you have the right snow hiking shoe on the right foot with help of pictogram, which can be found on decking of snow hiking shoe.
Adjustment:
Your snow hiking shoes must be properly adjusted to ensure your safety.
1/ Your foot must be snug agst snow hiking shoe (in front and behind) to secure your shoe in place.
2/ Depending on model, the straps or buckles must be tightened as much as possible.

Choose your snow hiking shoes according to your weight:

Snow hiking shoes should be chosen according to the weight of the hiker (including the weight of their backpack), so that they can remain on the surface of the snow. This is what is known as flotation. Snow hiking shoes come in different sizes to best adapt to the hiker’s build and their previous hiking experience.
Our advice:
15 to 50 kg: kid model
40 to 80 kg: small to medium decking
60 to 120 kg: wide deck

The heel lift that makes it easier to walk up slopes:

Opt for snow hiking shoes with a heel lift for an easier and more comfortable walk up slopes. This detachable heel lift enables you to raise your heel. It is used on steep inclines to reduce the effect of changing slope and conserve energy.

Using trekking poles for added stability when wearing snow hiking shoes:

We strongly advise you to bring a pair of trekking poles to ensure better stability while snowshoeing. This is all the more important if you intend to walk over the mountain tops (incline, descent,...) or in the powder snow where you may sink a little more into the snow. There are 2 types of discs. Choose wide discs to ensure the trekking poles remain on the surface.

Choose breathable clothes for snowshoeing:

We tend to over-equip ourselves when walking in the snow for fear of getting cold. However, you warm up rapidly when snowshoeing.
Adopt the 3-layer technique!
This technique allows you to regulate the heat input according to the effort exerted: remove a layer when it is hot and put it back on when it is colder or whenever you stop for a rest. If you are too warm, you perspire more and you will feel cold when you stop for a rest or walk down the mountain.

Dress using the 3-layer technique?

To ensure you are properly dressed in winter, whatever your activity, we recommend using the 3-layer principle:
layer 1: The technical base layer will enable damp to be wicked away to keep skin dry.
layer 2: The second layer (fleece, pullover) provides warmth and wicks away the damp.
layer 3: The jacket protects you from outdoor conditions: rain, snow, wind.
The outfit must be breathable to wick away moisture.

HOW DO I CHOOSE SHOES?

It is necessary to wear high, warm, waterproof and breathable hiking shoes for snowshoeing. Also preferably buy shoes with a good grip for when you remove your snow hiking shoes (in the car park or if there is very little snow...).

ALWAYS THINK SAFETY...

When walking off piste, bring maps, a compass and/or GPS, as well as an Avalanche Victim Detector, a shovel and a sensor. These three elements will make it easier for you to be found if you are caught in an avalanche or to search for a victim. And remember to study basic safety standards.
