Designed to learn and progress on all terrains, the GALA is for beginner riders seeking an easy, flexible and tolerant board. A snowboard very tolerant of edge mistakes (supple torsion between the feet). Good buoyancy on powder thanks to its large front and rear rocker.

Technical Information

The Gala is a very versatile and accessible all-mountain board. On-piste, the small classic camber under the feet provides enough grip. The double front-rear rocker helps it float over powder snow and makes it easy to turn on piste. At very high speed, it reaches its limit.

Directional Snowboard

The shape of the board is directional, that is to say that the board has a front and a rear. It is not symmetrical. The rear of the board is slightly narrower than the front and the bindings as well as the contact points of the snowboard are set back slightly. A directional shape offers better edge grip when turning, better control of the trajectory and more acceleration on exiting turns.

Cambre Ampteck Auto-Turn Rossignol

The Cambre Rossignol Amptek Auto-Turn has a reverse camber with a small standard camber between the two bindings to provide grip. 20% standard camber and 80% rocker. Suitable for beginner and intermediate snowboarders. Very good traction on hard snow with this kind of reverse camber (or double rocker) which provides buoyancy in powder snow and makes it easy to turn and has good manoeuvrability.

Soft and forgiving flex

Flex is the stiffness of the board between the front and back. The flex of the Gala is about 2/5, which is supple and forgiving. This is a very even type of flex from the tip (nose) to the tail, which behaves very reliably and predictably in turns. However, at high speed or on a very frozen snow, this board cannot hold a carved turn. It side-slips and automatically slows down.

Soft and forgiving torsion

The torsional stiffness, i.e. stiffness of the board on twisting, is about 2/5. This makes the board easy to handle, turn and forgiving of edge mistakes. A soft torsional stiffness gives a little freedom between the feet. By exaggerating, it can be said that the front foot can be tilted heel-to-toe, and the rear toe-to-heel. It is forgiving of edge mistakes which is important for a beginner. The soft torsional stiffness is also suitable for freestyle-jib use.

15 mm setback

The setback is when the contact points of the board on the snow are not symmetrical in relation to the centre of the board but shifted towards the rear. The bindings are also set back towards the rear by the same distance: 15 mm setback: fairly large setback for directional boards. It provides better stability in turns and buoyancy in powder snow because the weight is at the rear of the board which naturally makes the front come up.

Technical information

When should you wax your snowboard?

The Decathlon snowboards are supplied already waxed. They then require regular maintenance: ideally requires waxing every 5 outings and at least once a year: - either at the beginning of the season to start with a very good slide - or at the end of the season, leaving the wax on to protect the base throughout the summer.

What's the right size Gala for me?

In general, for all-terrain use, you can choose between about -15 and -20 cm (e.g. a girl measuring 1 m 66 can use a board between 151 and 146 cm in length).
If you choose a shorter board, it will be easier to control. This is also advised for people who are light for their height. A longer board offers greater stability at high speeds.
146 cm (40-70 kg) => from 1 m 61 to 1 m 70
151 cm (50-75 kg) => from 1 m 65 to 1 m 75

Glide quality: extruded sole

The bases are made of polyethylene using 2 different technical processes: - extruded base with a certain density of polyethylene - sintered base with a higher density polyethylene (fewer holes, more PE) An extruded base provides normal glide performance and is hardwearing over time.
