TECHNICAL INFORMATION
How to adjust your backpack?

Position the bag at the correct height and then adjust it. With the belt on your hips, put the straps around the front part of your shoulders. The load adjuster straps (which are sometimes also height-adjustable) must be at an angle of around 45°. If, during testing, the back seems too short or too long, re-adjust and try again until satisfied.

Field test

All our backpacks are tested in the field by users who represent the target market under conditions identical to those found in typical use. Our Missions Tests link the product manager to people who are not affiliated with Quechua to test, develop, and approve the products.

Laboratory Testing

We carry out laboratory tests to check all component parts: fabric, buckles, straps, foam and zips. For example, for fabric: resistance to wear, tearing, colour-dyeing under UV rays, washing, waterproofing. Then a final test on the finished product simulates the kind of treatment to which it will be subjected over several years, to assess the strength of the assembly: the backpack is weighted then placed on a dummy which then reproduces the movement of fast walking over thousands of cycles.

10-year warranty, technical partnership

The heavy stitching research and development department, Quechua's partner for researching and testing its components and assemblies, conducted tests simulating backpack ageing. The tests focused on components, seams, and the end product. As a result of these tests, Quechua can guarantee all tested bags tested for 10 years from the date of purchase indicated on the sales receipt.

10-year guarantee, conditions

The guarantee covers any backpack defects, except those caused by normal wear and tear and improper use. This special 10-year guarantee will only be granted upon presentation of the product and sales receipt. If the product is covered by the warranty, it will be repaired or exchanged for free. This commercial guarantee does not affect any statutory guarantees that are applicable in the country of purchase.

How is backpack volume measured?

The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method: we fill the main compartment, as well as each pocket, with little balls. Then we empty these balls into a graduated container, which gives the equivalent volume in litres.

The Easyfit system

It is possible to adjust your backpack in a single intuitive step to fit your body shape while it is on your back: all this for maximum comfort.

How to adjust your Forclaz EasyFit backpack?

1 - Loosen all the straps (straps, hip belt, load adjuster straps). 2 - Put the backpack on. 3 - Place the belt on the hips (it should go around the hip bones) and tighten it. 4 -Tighten the shoulder straps. 5 - Pull the Easyfit straps and the strap block will go around your shoulders. 6 - Adjust the weight adjuster straps as needed.

EasyFit effectiveness tests are carried out by our Research and Development teams

User-friendly design: adjustment time is actually 2 to 3 times quicker with the Easyfit backpack and the number of corrections = 0 for the Easyfit bag. Does not affect the quality of adjustment compared to a bag with traditional adjustment :EasyFit was rated significantly more comfortable on a 4% Friedman statistical test; users also noted better adjustments 6 times more often.

How to pack your backpack?

Put your bedding at the bottom. Place heavy gear (tent, camp stove, food) near your back. Pack your clothes around these items. The ground mat should be placed under the flap and the tent beneath the pack if there is no space inside. Keep a rainproof jacket and/or fleece garment close at hand. Place small items for daily use (sun cream, map, glasses etc.) in the pockets. If carrying a hydration pack (water hydration bladder), this should be placed in its special pocket along the back.

Environmental measures

Oxylane and Quechua have chosen to inform you of the environmental impact of its hiking backpack products over their entire life cycle. This work resulted from an experiment completed in July 2011 with the French Ministry of Ecology. Scores ranging from A to E were assigned based on comparisons between Quechua's backpacks only. Details on this project and the calculation methods used are available at http://www.oxylane.com/20/demarche-environnementale
