Beginner Ice Skating Tricks
Figure and ice skating is a classic winter activity that can be enjoyed by all ages. Whether you prefer figure skating or ice hockey, ice skating offers a fun and graceful way to enjoy icy surfaces. Find a local ice rink, rent a pair of ice skates or buy your figure and ice skating equipment and start gliding! Practising proper balance and posture is important, and don't forget to dress warmly to stay comfortable on the ice.
If you're a beginner in ice skating and want to learn some basic tricks, here are a few to start with:
Forward Swizzles: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, bend your knees slightly, and push one foot out to the side while keeping the other foot stationary. Alternate this swaying motion to gain balance and control.
Two-Foot Glide: Push off with both feet, extend your arms forward, and maintain a straight posture as you glide across the ice. Focus on balance and keeping your knees slightly bent.
Snowplow Stop: Position your feet in a "V" shape with your toes pointing inward. Bend your knees and press the inside edges of your skates into the ice to create friction and slow down.
Backward Skating: Bend your knees, lean slightly forward, and push off with one foot while dragging the other foot backwards. Use your arms for balance, and keep your head up.
One-Foot Glide: Lift one foot slightly off the ice, bend your knee, and practice gliding on the other foot. Start with short glides and gradually increase duration and control.
