Let down by gears

looks good, rides well.

My first road bike, have done 600 miles in the two months that I have had it. Can't really comment on the quality as I have never ridden another road bike, My one obvious problem though is the gears. On about 300 miles they started slipping, changing well after I had shifted or randomly changing. I had a professional realign them, but 300 miles later I am unable to select the biggest cog on the rear cassette, changes crash rather than glide and again back to delays between shifting and anything happening at the back. Have had to watch many videos but am now reasonably confident in sorting the problem. However, I would not expect to be servicing the gears every couple of hundred miles. Also, get some better tyres, 25mm fit nicely and will make your ride much better.

Brilliant first road bike

used for More than 1 year I love this bike. After struggling to ride long distances on a very comfortable, but very heavy ladies leisure bike, this has changed everything. Cycling is now fun, fast and as frequent as possible!! Great proportions and weight for a short cyclist. Great price for the beginner/amateur.

Incredible value

Light, great gears, well set up, looks good too.

I wanted to get back into cycling after a long break. I'm 51 so didn't want to risk spending loads of money on something I wouldn't enjoy or wouldn't use. So the bike arrived and I went out for the first time.Well, this was a cycling revelation to me, easy to ride, good fun, fast, easy gears and it really is helping me keep fit. A brilliant bike at a silly price. If you don't believe me read the online reviews !

I love my new Triban 500!

Looks, comfort, power

used for 2 to 8 weeks I love everything about my new Triban 500 SE. It looks great - black and sleek with smart turquoise highlights; it rides great - on a nice road it just glides along; and I feel that so much more of my effort is now being efficiently used to push me along.

It's recaptured the feeling I had as a kid playing for hours on my bike :)

Excellent value

Good riding position, great value for money

Gear changes can be a bit clunky

used for 3 to 6 months I hadn't been on a bike in over 10 years and foolishly decided to enter a charity bike ride this year. It wasn't a little bimble around a park, that would have been too easy, the ride was in fact a 100 mile Sportive - The Flat n Fast organised by Sportive HQ but I was part of the BLESMA 100 team. My research in January told me it was not possible to get a decent road bike for under £1000, then I came on a couple of peer reviews from sports writers & riders for the Triban 500 SE.

I have spent the first 6 months of 2016 training on this bike from 7 mile rides to 50 mile rides over hilly terrain before completing the 100 mile race - my only ambition was to complete it, I've never been in a Sportive before.

This bike performed extremely well, yes there were better bikes that seemed to be lighter than my shoes but I'm not in that fitness league so they would have been wasted on me.

The only gripe for me are the gears which took a while to get used to and can be a little clunky when changing but nevertheless have a good range on them to cope with gradients.

I have no problem recommending this bike to anyone who wants to take up road cycling whether that's competitive or just to stay fit, this is an absolute bargain of a bike.

Don't be tempted by brand snobs into spending £1000's on a road bike when you can get one of these and all your gear for a lot less.
