good bike - annoying changes with 51 cm frame

carbon fork, light, handles well, looks good

small wheels and no toe clips. Clunky gears.

used for 2 to 8 weeks On the whole I'm loving my Triban 3 after moving up from a hybrid. However, there are some minor annoyances about the 51cm frame model. it comes without toeclips and these cannot be fitted to the supplied pedals (standard on all larger bikes) so looks like I'll soon ahve to pay for an upgrade. 650mm wheels rather than 700mm means fewer options on tubes, tyres, replacements.
Moslty the bike rides beautifully and I'm looking forward to my first long run this weekend but the gear change is clunky on the large cogs esp the largest. Gears have already been adjusted by local mechanic who says he's done the best he can- a shame because the low end gear change is silky smooth and effortless.
I understand compromises have to be made to achieve the great value but decent gear changing is a must on a road bike.

Response of the brand

Dear Sir,
The newer version of this discontinued bike comes with microshift rather than the previous version of Shimano Sora which is on this bike (and used by all major manufacturers).  We made this change because we found the microshift groupset to be more reliable and easier to adjust at this price point.  The current version of sora is totally different.
650 wheels are standard on all our bikes under 54.  This will change for future models.  Oddly enough, they will perform very well and are more suited to this frame size but parts can be an issue.  But we do stock these with inner-tubes for £2.99 and tyres for £17.99.  You'll find them on our site.
To be fair tough, at £200 this bike is an absolute steal with a lifetime frame warranty and carbon forks.
Thanks for your feedback and have a good weekend.

Fantastic introduction to road cycling!

Good frame, reliable components, nimble handling.

Wheels & saddle.

used for More than 2 years I've been riding the red Triban 3 for almost 2 years and in that time the components haven't skipped a beat. I bought this bike as an introduction to road cycling after many years in the saddle of various GT mountain bikes. I can geniunely say I have been delighted with my Triban 3! The only drawbacks are the wheels which developed some minor issues with the bearings after about 700 miles. The saddle was not to my preference and I've replaced this along with the wheels to have, in my opinion, a pretty decent bike for under £400. Even with the stock wheels and saddle, this bike represents phenomenal value for money. Just a shame it's no longer stocked by Decathlon. When I do come to buy another road bike, my positive experience with what is an entry-level road bike, will almost certainly mean I return to Decathlon to make another purchase.

used for 1 week or less I realise it has been discontinued for a while but are all remaining stocks gone for good now?

Response of the brand

Dear Sir,
Yes, this bike is no longer in our range and all stock has gone.  Very popular but now replaced by the triban 300 (better gears and tyres) and the triban 500 SE (better gears, tyres and carbon forks)

used for 1 week or less Hi,
Having read superb reviews for the triban 3, im disappointed to see it is sold out in all sizes on the white model but also the red one (this feed). I note that it is a popular bike, but is a few years old now so am worried it may be discontinued or that it is not being stocked any more. I have signed up to updates on each bike being available online, but am aware realistically it may be a lost cause. I am writing this post hoping to get an official answer on it, as i will get another bike if this is the case. I live in the south and am hoping for the 54 size! Any information would be great!
Thanks,
T.

Response of the brand

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your request regarding the Triban 3 (Red).  This model was discontinued at the end of last year and we have been selling through our residual stock since then.
The bike is no longer available.
The replacement is called the Triban 500 SE which has upgraded tyres, new styling and a new updated 24speed microshift groupset.  cstomer comments are 5* on this new model and cycling weekly, cyclng active and road.cc have all given it glowing reviews.
This is the link if you wish to see the bike: http://www.decathlon.co.uk/triban-500-se-road-bike-black-id_8306187.html
We are expecting more stock of the 54 in the warehouse in the next 2 weeks for online delivery.  Some store have stock of the 54.
The Triban 300 (white is in the process of being delivered to our warehouses on the continent and they will hopefully start to arrive in store within the next 2 weeks as well.

Response of the brand

Dear Sir,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review of the b'twin  triban 3 road bike.
I'm sorry to read that you had some issues with your rear wheel.  We had similar feedback from other customers and the product engineers have improved the hub quality.
I'm please to read that you were able to change your wheel at one of our stores.
If you have other questions of comments, please do not hesitate to get back in touch.
