Had it for just over 10 months, largeframe.

Light, agile for a big bike.

Wheels buckle too easy, gears, brake wear, saddle

used for More than 1 year I had this bought for my 15th birthday and I have used this to and from school everyday and occasionally out on the weekends and after school with my friends around busy London, the gears became a little jumpy so I took it in and asked them to tune the gears which they done so (for free) but then I went back 2 months afterwards and said that I have the same problem and that I would like a service but they claimed that I'd already used my free service, so because of this I have used it as normal, trying to ignore the skippy gears even though a couple of weeks ago I almost got ran over because of the gear skipped and the chain came off and I almost got hit by a cab. And driving this bike up a slight hill the other day a car swerved and I had to slam my barely working brakes on, after I began pedalling, I changed gear to make it easier and *bang* the chain snaps and I almost get ran over by a bus . Yes this bike is cheap, yes it all seems good at first, but this is just like decathlon as it seems all good and friendly at first but in the long run it's not so good.

Response of the brand

Hi,
thanks for the review on the RR 5.3.
Gears can slip and do require some adjustment as time goes on.  Many factors can influence this which are sometimes beyond the rider's control.
For sure it your gears were slipping and changing gear in these circumstances under pressure can result in chain damage in particular if the chain had been grinding for some time.
If you brakes are not working as well as they should then you may require new pads as they can wear out.
You'll need to keep up with your bike maintenance in particular if you use it everyday.  There are some great instructional videos available on you tube to guide you through the basics if you want to do it yourself.
If you wish, I can book your bike into your local store free or charge for a quick checkup and free service to make sure that your  bike is running smoothly.
Please get back in touch with me and I will arrange this for you at your local decathlon store..
regards,
Peter Lazarus UK Market Manager DECATHLON

I've recently purchased X8 Rockrider 5.3's for use with my 'Freedive and Fitness' business on the Isle of Benbecula.
I decided to go for the Rockrider 5.3 after reading a couple of good reviews and researching the bikes specifications.
I have to say that these bikes really do Rock!! They sure hit the mark and go further still!
Superb riding position, very light, awesome sophisticated fast response and handling over rough troublesome terrain!
Service I received: second to none! A five star b

Overall I am very content with my purchase, however, I am disappointed that the service provided when purchasing my bike was minimal and I did not receive maintenance manual or a toolkit despite requesting one. So it looks like I'll definitely be making use of my free service option

Great bike so far - just a few teething problems

Nice looking, good quality

Nothing really, bought higher stem to raise bars

Ordered on-line last summer & arrived in good condition with a small area of paint missing where the Sram attached to frame (assembly?) No protective packaging on bike and both bike and tools were loose inside the box! The Alan key supplied was the wrong size for straightening the bars but I had one anyway.

The rear break was rubbing so adjusted myself (cable tight rather than pads miss-adjusted) but otherwise great! - gears superb, wheels true and tyres fine for road use, no punctures yet!
