Reflections after a few months

Wiring and bottom bracket

  (United Kingdom)

50-59 years old    Man

4 5

used for 3 to 6 months Having ridden the bike for a few months I though I'd add some comments.

The bottom bracket insisted on "clicking" on every stroke, and was an embarrassment to be out riding with other people. Everything I tried failed, so eventually I replaced the BB; problem solved. I'm sure the store would have done it for me, but it was more convenient to buy a spare and fit it myself.

The dynamo wiring for the rear light is built into the rear mudguard. Eventually the light failed, and I traced the fault to a break in the internal wiring. This was impossible to fix, so I ran an external cable to link front and back lights.

Unless you know your way around bike maintenance these two issues could be a problem.

However, I am still happy with the bike; its core components are excellent.

well made bike at an excellent price

looks good, well made, added bonus with the dynamo

none as yet

used for 1 week or less very helpful guy at giltbrook, (chas) not ridden it yet but it is well made, sturdy, got a lot of extras, wide gearing range, exactly what the missus wants. excellent all round for the money.

A return to cycling

Plenty of bike for your money

used for 2 to 8 weeks This bike was bought to replace a bike that was too small. I was looking for something which would be good on the road, cope with cycle paths and the odd track but definitely nothing approaching mountain biking! I wasn't concerned about getting the latest space age frame etc. so have ended up with a really good machine. Comfortable to ride and solidly built. The advice in store was good and appropriate to my expressed needs. A bargain I would say!
