1
Size and weight Hexagonal living area, 2m sides for a surface area of 10 m². Max headroom 2.05m. 14kg.

Room space This Seconds Base was designed as the (very big) living room for 2 Seconds tents, for fresh, rainy, or mosquito-filled evenings. It therefore does not have a bedroom but will be ideally pitched beside any other tent.
-
3
Living and storage space With its 10 m², 8 or even 10 people can comfortably sit at the table. The groundsheet is included. It is basin shaped, and prevents any rainwater runoff into the tent. Base tents can be twinned together, either with a Full Seconds Base or an XL Seconds Base, extending the shelter area from 5 to 10 m² or 15m² or more. See demonstration film

Entrance/exit It has 4 large doors, 3 of which are adjoining to allow for a panoramic view of the countryside, and a 4th door at the back. These doors are easily stored in adjacent pocket, for increased ease of use. Large overhangs protect each door from the sun and rain - and allow you to keep them open.
-
5
Pitching/ folding Innovation: the groundsheet can be positioned and secured before the tent is unfolded. This facilitates the right positioning of the tent, and its accurate set up. Then, you can unfold and set it up in under 2 minutes! Folds down in less than 2 minutes when you have the knack (details and film available on www.quechua.com). This tent can easily be used without the groundsheet.

Waterproofing As with all Quechua tents, a lot of work is put in to ensuring they are watertight, through laboratory testing (an ENTIRE TENT is put through 200 litres/hr/sq m!) and field testing. (PU-coated polyester flysheet with all the seams sealed with thermo-bonded tape). Twinned 2 Base Seconds XL have been confirmed waterproof under the same conditions.

Test Product
The waterproofing of QUECHUA tents is approved by a full tent shower of 200l of water/hr/sq m. Although the water column test (=mm Schmerber) is quite well known and measures the level of waterproofing for fabrics, it is not a good indicator of how waterproof a tent is. Indeed, the fabrics are waterproof (above 1,000mm!) as they must be, but it is the tent itself that must be designed and developed to keep water out of seams, flaps, openings, zips etc. This is done using the shower test.
Care instructions:
1 CLEANING: if need be, clean the tent with soapy water then rinse (with a hose if possible). Then dry completely. 2 RESIN STAINS (very hard to remove): once the stain is dry, gently scratch it off whilst holding an ice cube on the inside of the fabric to make the resin brittle so it will come off more easily. 3 STORAGE: after use or cleaning, do not store your tent until it is completely dry to prevent odours and mould formation.
