Waterproofing We measure a fabric's resistance to water pressure, expressed in mm of the water column (tests based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure withstood, the more waterproof the fabric. A component scoring 2000 mm can resist the pressure from 2000 mm of water (which is equivalent to a rain shower lasting one hour).

Breathability To find out whether a component is breathable, we test its evaporate resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by an active body is evaporated, and the higher the fabric's breathability. For example: RET < 9 = fabric is extremely breathable / 920 = fabric has little or no breathability.

Water repellency Water repellency is a fabric's ability to let water slide over its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight, breathable and warm. Water repellency is achieved through a treatment applied to the fabric's exterior. This treatment must be renewed throughout the garment's lifetime (after every 2 or 3 washes). Water-repellent treatment products are available in our stores. All Quechua waterproof jackets have received a water-repellent treatment.

Windproof effect Coating applied to the fabric makes it waterproof and windproof. Waterproof fabric has the necessary technical characteristics to be considered windproof. Protection from the wind is critical, as whether playing sports or at rest, wind can chill the body significantly.
